Humpstreet vs. Kearny Irish FC
9am - Harvey Field - Kearny, NJ
In the first of many battles, Kearny Irish FC tied Hoboken's Humpstreet 2-2 on Sunday at Harvey Field. The bhoys struck twice in the first half, and looked certain to add a few more at times. Kearny's captain, Miguel Abreu, had two highlight reel goals. The first came in the 18th minute, Abreu turned on a dime in the box and sent a rocket into the opposite corner. Humpstreet keeper, Angelo Ratto, could only shake his head as the shot could not have been hit any better. Abreu's second came from an Andrew Gray feed, Abreu wrong footed the defender and headed in on goal 1 vs 1 finishing the goal for a 2-nil lead. Kearny's Gary Nimmo, John O'Neill, and Jimmy Wandling all threatened the Humpstreet goal in the first half with narrowly missed/saved shots. Humpstreet had their chances too, perhaps the best opportunity coming from an unlikely source, left back Anthony Amado- as he made a great run up the wing and into the attack.
In the second half, Kearny came out a little flat, but still maintained the majority of the possession. Humpstreet's defended well, and counterattacked effectively as Nico Ratto was able to pull one back for Hoboken. Humpstreet's youth and speed eventually proved enough to pull back the equalizer in the 77th minute. The final 10 minutes saw both teams desperate for the game winner, which never came. A red card did come unfortunately for a Humpstreet defender, Diego Quattrochi, after a questionable tackle on Kearny's newest signing, Anthony Portelli. Ironically, Portelli joined the Bhoys from Humpstreet only 10 days earlier. Portelli had to be carried off the field, but is listed as day to day currently. Despite getting tattooed, when questioned about the incident Portelli laughed and said he is "looking to return the favor". In the end 2-2 proved a fair -deserved result as both teams fought a great battle.
